MA15 Beacon St.
Hello fellow Red Knights members,
As we all know the Red Knights is a club for members of the fire service, and their families, who enjoy riding motorcycles. On Monday June 2, 2014 fifteen members from the Massachusetts 15 chapter of the Red Knights will be leaving Boston Massachusetts and embarking on what is known as the "Alphabet tour". The ride will be approximately 1500 miles long, and we will be stopping by twenty-six different stations, with none of them being in Massachusetts. We will be doing this in three days and will conclude our ride in Lake George, NY at the Americade motorcycle rally.
Ma 15 decided back in January that we were going to do the "Alphabet Ride" and instead of taking a full riding season, or multiple riding seasons to accomplish this we decided to do it in three days. When the ride was first put together by our members, it was to build camaraderie between the people in our club as well as build new brother- and sisterhoods with the fellow firefighters that we would meet, when visiting these stations.
The ride has now changed from just building camaraderie and new friendships to something more personal for our members. You see, the Ma 15 chapter of the Red Knights is predominantly made up of Boston, Massachusetts Firefighters. As I'm sure you saw in the media the BFD suffered a terrible loss this year on March 26, 2014 when they lost two of their own in a nine alarm fire on Beacon St. in the Back Bay. Firefighter Michael Kennedy and Lt. Edward Walsh, lost their lives doing what we all swore to as firefighters, to protect and serve our citizens. As you may have also seen in the media there has been a fund set up for Firefighter Michael Kennedy and Lt. Edward Walsh's families. Although this ride will still build camaraderie and new friendships with our club members, and fellow firefighters, we are now dedicating this ride in Lt. Walsh and Firefighter Kennedy's memory.
As firefighters, we have all seen that when we lose one of our own, its big news in the media for a week or so and then it fades out, as new news stories happen. Unfortunately for Lt Walsh and FF Kennedy's family's they still have to deal with their loss every day. The Red Knights Ma 15 chapter has sent out letters to all twenty-six stations that we will be visiting and have gotten a great response from our brothers and sisters. They have asked what time we'll be there, because they want to feed us, or just make sure someone will be there to present us with a check, as they are a volunteer station. Ma 15 is respectfully asking that you donate to the Lieutenant Walsh - Firefighter Kennedy Memorial Fund. If your chapter decides to donate please make checks payable to Lieutenant Walsh - Firefighter Kennedy Memorial Fund. Checks can be mailed to the address below.
On Saturday, June 14, 2014 all donations will be dropped off by Ma 15 to the Boston credit union at 60 Hallet St. Dorchester Ma., where the fund has been set up. Please help us show the Walsh and Kennedy families that we will never forget their love ones, and the sacrifice they made.
